Taking classes is important but you should also find some kind of activities you can do on campus. All colleges have a lot of clubs or teams you can join, but you could also volunteer for an association or even start your own club. You will be able to add this experience on your resume.

One of the things that you should do when you enter college is to get acquainted the area around your college. This means find the best restaurants, supermarkets and bars in your area. An understanding of the place that you live in can help you feel more comfortable during your stay.

If possible try to live for your first year in campus housing. By taking advantage of room and board you can give yourself more of a chance to focus on getting accustomed to the campus and community. Then in following years you will have a better idea of where you might prefer to live on your own.

College is a time when most young adults leave home for the first time. If not prepared this can lead to some irresponsible decisions. Make sure that you understand about living on your own in college and the importance of studying and attending classes. College is not just a time to party, it is also a time to learn.

Set a budget before you enter your first semester for how much money you will be spending going out with friends, on food and on miscellaneous items. This will give you a better idea of the restrictions that you have so that you do not blow all of your money in the first few months.

Do not put off your college work until the last minute. Your studies are going to be challenging enough without adding the extra stress of rushing through it to get it done in time. Stick to a regular study schedule and do your assignments as soon as you get them in order to reduce your stress.

Try studying for exams during the week. Any free time you have between classes, before classes, or after classes, go to the library to study for about an hour. This can help you enjoy your nights without worrying about studying later on. Doing this can also leave you plenty of time on the weekends for a social life without worrying about any last minute cramming.

Once you start college, you should schedule an appointment with your adviser to set up a study plan. Your academic adviser will help you choose your classes, your activities and make plans for your future. Meet with your adviser on a regular basis to talk about your progress and make sure you stay on the right track.

When you first get to college, get a map. You will feel a little silly using the map, but you do need to know where to go, after all. Map out your classes and the cafeteria so that you can easily get around when you first begin. That can make your first days less hectic.

If you want to go to the movies, take in a matinee showing instead of going in the evenings. You could save several dollars on the cost of admission. Also, your university may have free showings of different movies. While you may not be very familiar with the titles, you could discover a gem that you really enjoy.

Many college students have to take their clothes to a communal laundry room or nearby laundry mat to wash their clothes. These students would be wise to stay with their clothes at all times or they might find an empty machine when they return. Theft if a major problem at many universities so make sure to stay on guard when doing laundry.

Learn to prioritize your classes in regards to study time. Not all of your classes will be intensive for you. Those classes that you excel in, are often easy for you and do not require as much study time. Be smart and use that study time for other classes that do require more of your attention; however, always refocus your efforts should challenges arise in the easy class.

If you are looking to get the most out of class then you should sit in the front row. This allows you to keep from getting distracted, and keeps you focused on the lecture. You are more apt to answer questions because you can not see all of the eyes in the class on you.
